Sgt. Maj. Charles R. McAdams IV

SgtMaj McAdams was born in East Meadow, NY and enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 2003.  After graduating from the Third Recruit Training Battalion, Company M, Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, SC he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC and Avionics “A” School in Pensacola, FL.  In April 2004, he graduated from AV-8B Avionics “C” School at MCAS Cherry Point receiving his Marine Occupational Specialty 6332 as an AV-8B Harrier Electrician.

In April 2004, Private First Class McAdams reported to Marine Attack Training Squadron (VMAT) 203, MCAS Cherry Point, NC for duty as an AV-8B Avionics technician.  In June 2004, he was promoted to Lance Corporal.  In September 2005, LCpl McAdams was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal and assigned as the Avionics Night Crew Supervisor.  In September 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and in November 2006, he deployed to Yuma, Arizona in support of Weapons and Tactics Instructors Course 1-07 (WTI).  In April 2007, Sgt McAdams reported for duty with the VMA-542 “Tigers” MCAS Cherry Point, NC where he served as the Avionics Workcenter Supervisor.  In August 2007, Sgt McAdams deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) 06-08. 

In May 2008, Sgt McAdams reported to Drill Instructor (DI) School MCRD Parris Island, SC.  He graduated in September 2008 and was assigned as a DI in Company M, Third Recruit Training Battalion.  Throughout his tour, Sgt McAdams served as a DI, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor. In September 2011, SSgt McAdams was awarded the coveted Parris Island DI of the year. 

In January 2012, SSgt McAdams reported to the “Spades” of VMA-231 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC where he served as the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant, Avionics Division SNCOIC and Quality Assurance Division Chief.  As a “Spade,” SSgt McAdams deployed in support of WTI 02-12, Fleet Week NYC 2012, Enhanced Mohave Viper 7-12, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) 12.2/13.1, WTI 01-14, WTI 02-14, and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.  In April 2014, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In March 2016, GySgt McAdams was selected as an Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. During his time as an AMOI, GySgt McAdams augmented Officer Candidate School each summer serving as a Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant and Company 1stSgt. In September 2018, 1stSgt McAdams reported to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as Golf and Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. As part of “America’s Battalion”, 1stSgt McAdams deployed in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Unit Deployment Program 21.2. In March 2022, SgtMaj McAdams assumed the duties of Battalion Sergeant Major for Wounded Warrior Battalion-East.

SgtMaj McAdams personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of 4th award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold stars in lieu of 3rd award. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Leadership and Management from American Military University.
