Commanding Officer, Wounded Warrior Regiment
Colonel Bret M. Hyla comes to the Wounded Warrior Regiment after his most recent assignment as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-6, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
He enlisted in 1989, was selected for Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program in 1994 and was commissioned and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1997.
Previously, he served as commanding officer, Bravo Company Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 from 2010-11 and the commanding officer of Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 from 2015 to 2017.
Lieutenant Colonel Hyla has served as a communications officer with 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force, 2d Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28, 3d Marine Division and in the J-6, Joint Staff
He is a graduate of the Army War College in Carlisle, PA. He is also a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program and the Naval Postgraduate School with a degree in Computer Science.
He has deployed to Kosovo as the assistant communications officer of 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 1999, to Iraq as the Regimental Communications Officer with 2d Marine Regiment in 2003, and Future Operations Officer/Operations Officer C-6 in Helmand Province with II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) in 2012.
