The Invictus Games is a Paralympic-style competitive event showing the unconquerable spirit of wounded, ill, and injured service men and women. Team US is made up of competitors from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Special Operations Command. Many of them have competed at Warrior Games and/or previous Invictus Games and are at the top of their game. While this is a competitive event it's more about the indomitable spirit of our wounded warriors and highlights the resiliency needed to adjust to a new "normal." If you've never witnessed something like this then you are in for a treat.
The Invictus Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for defence personnel who are striving to overcome physical and emotional challenges. The Games also recognise the significant contribution made by family and friends in the recovery process. Rather than an elite sports competition, the Invictus Games is for competitors of all abilities and seeks to ignite their "unconquerable" spirit.
This year the Invictus Games will be held in Sydney, Australia, October 20-27th. Competition will occur at multiple venues including the Olympic Park, Opera House, and Sydney Harbour. There are 500 competitors from 18 Nations competing in 11 sports including archery, athletics, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling, sailing, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby.
