Lt. Col. Paul Haagenson

Executive Officer, Wounded Warrior Regiment

Lieutenant Colonel Haagenson was commissioned in May 2004 upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy. After completing the Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course, he served as a rifle platoon commander, rifle company executive officer, and battalion assistant operations officer, 3d Battalion, 6th Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC.  During this time he deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM from August 2005 to March 2006 and again from January to August of 2007.  He also graduated from the resident Joint Tactical Aircraft Control – Primer course in Little Creek, Virginia.

From January 2008 to July 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Haagenson served on the staff at The Basic School, where he held billets as a rifle platoon tactics instructor, staff platoon commander, Basic Officer Course and Warrant Officer Basic Course company executive officer, and Infantry Officer Course instructor. During this time he completed the Expeditionary Warfare School non-resident curriculum before being selected to also attend the resident EWS program.  During EWS he also graduated from the Tactical MAGTF Integration Course in Twentynine Palms, CA, as an Operations and Tactics Instructor.

After graduating EWS in May 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Haagenson assumed command of Company C, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines (1/9) in Camp Lejeune, NC.  He deployed to Afghanistan in September 2013 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM as the battalion’s assistant operations officer.  During this deployment, he re-assumed command of Company C and remained in that billet until the de-activation of 1/9 in August 2014.  He subsequently served as the operations officer and executive officer for 1st Battalion, 8th Marines (1/8).

In July 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Haagenson was assigned to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) for studies in computer science, where he specialized in networking and mobility.  During this time he also graduated from the non-resident Command and Staff College.  After graduating NPS in June 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Haagenson was assigned to the Combat Development and Integration (CD&I) Command in Quantico, VA.

While serving at CD&I, Lieutenant Colonel Haagenson was assigned to the Operational Architecture branch of the Marine Corps Integration Division. After completing training as a certified Federal Enterprise Architect, he served as the Lead Capability Data Modeler, where he applied his NPS degree toward improving the Marine Corps’ understanding of capturing, modeling and displaying capabilities data.

In July 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Haagenson was assigned to the Wounded Warrior Regiment, where he is currently serving as the Executive Officer.
