Lieutenant Colonel Wells commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May of 2008. He checked in to Fox Company 6-08, The Basic School, graduating in January of 2009. Lieutenant Colonel Wells then checked in to 3d Battalion, 11th Marines for on the job training before attending MAOBC at Fort Sill graduating in August of 2009. Lieutenant Colonel Wells served as a forward observer with Fox Company, BLT 2d Battalion, 7th Marines and deployed on the 31st MEU in 2010. He then served as Fire Direction Officer and Executive Officer in Battery K, 3/11 again deploying on the 31st MEU with BLT 2/7 in 2011.
In the spring of 2012 Lieutenant Colonel Wells received orders to 1st ANGLICO. He deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 12.2-13.1 as Firepower Control Team 6 Leader supporting multiple units and operations throughout RC(SW). Upon return from Afghanistan he served as the SALT E OIC supporting multiple overseas exercises and then deployed as the ANGLICO Detachment OIC on the inaugural SPMAGTF CR CC 15.1 to Kuwait and Jordan. Lieutenant Colonel Wells received orders to resident Expeditionary Warfare School and graduated in May of 2016.
Lieutenant Colonel Wells checked into 5th Battalion, 11th Marines in June of 2016 and served as Commander of Battery Q until March of 2017. He then became the Battalion Fires Plans Officer before serving as the OIC of the Maritime HIMARS Detachment deploying in support of SOCOM on Overseas Contingency Operations. Upon return Lieutenant Colonel Wells served as 11th Marines Assistant Operations Officer until checking in to Marine Corps Command and Staff College in July of 2018.
Lieutenant Colonel Wells graduated from CSC in June of 2019 with a Masters of Military Studies. He then checked in to Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Manpower Management Records and Performance Branch. He served as a Career Counselor and the Junior Enlisted Performance Evaluation System OIC, developing policy and working with software developers to release the new system in February of 2021.
Lieutenant Colonel Wells received orders to 1st Battalion, 10th Marines and reported in July of 2021 to serve as the Logistics Officer. In August of 2021, 1st Battalion, 10th Marines (-)(+) deployed to Camp Upshur, Quantico in support of Operation ALLIES WELCOME as Security Force (SECFOR), Task Force Quantico. Lieutenant Colonel Wells served as SECFOR Operations/Logistics/Executive Officer for the duration from August to December of 2021. Upon redeployment, Lieutenant Colonel Wells continued to serve as the Logistics Officer until he assumed the billet of Battalion Operations Officer in August of 2022. He served as the Battalion Operations Officer until June of 2023.
From June of 2023 until July of 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Wells served as the Commanding Officer of Fire Support Battery, 10th Marines. In August of 2024, he checked in to Marine Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia . He served as the G-32 Fires and Effects Officer until reporting to Wounded Warrior Battalion East in April of 2025 to serve as the Commanding Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Wells graduated from the US Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in History and holds a Master of Military Studies from USMC Command and Staff College. Lieutenant Colonel Wells's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
