2017 DoD Warrior Games

The 2017 Department of Defense (DoD) Warrior Games will be held June 30 - July 8 in Chicago, Illinois. Approximately 265 seriously wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans will participate in the competition. The wounded warrior athletes will represent the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard, Air Force and Special Operations Command. The United Kingdom and Australia have confirmed they will send teams to compete at the Games.

The Warrior Games were established in 2010 as a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded warriors and to expose them to adaptive sports. This is the third time the DoD will lead the operational planning and coordination of the event, and 2017 marks the first year the Warrior Games will be held entirely outside a military installation or a U.S. Olympic Committee facility.

The U.S. Navy, in partnership with the City of Chicago, will host this year's event. Competition will take place at several prominent locations across Chicago, including McCormick Place, the United Center and Soldier Field, June 30 – July 8.

Teams include active-duty service members and veterans with upper-body, lower-body, and spinal cord injuries; traumatic brain injuries; visual impairment; serious illnesses; and post-traumatic stress. They will go head-to-head in archery, cycling, field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and wheelchair basketball.

Athletes possessing professionalism, team spirit and the best qualifying times and/or scores are selected to compete on Team Marine Corps in the DoD Warrior Games.
