More than Medals: Team Captain Discusses his Warrior Games experience

31 Jul 2017 | Wounded Warrior Regiment

The end of July is here. Can you believe summer is almost over?! During the month of July we were focused on the Warrior Athlete Reconditioning Program, or WAR-P, as we call it here at the Regiment. WAR-P includes all of the adaptive sports and conditioning programs that we have to keep our recovering service members in the fight.

During Warrior Games, we sat down with the #TeamMarineCorps team captain, Lance Cpl. Michael Sousa DoCarmo. These videos will give you a glimpse into his experiences at the 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games, and his goals for the future.

Lance Cpl. Sousa DoCarmo enlisted in January 2016 and was injured in August 2016.

After his injury, he was sent to the Wounded Warrior Regiment.

Lance Cpl. Sousa DoCarmo was selected to be the team captain because he was the youngest Marine on the team, but he seems to think it was because of his good looks and charm!

What an amazing experience as team captain! Lance Cpl. Sousa DoCarmo has big plans for when he leaves the Marine Corps.

For many athletes Warrior Games is the highlight of their year. We were honored to take part in #WarriorGames in Chicago. For more information about the Warrior Games visit: http://www.dodwarriorgames.com/.

Every day our Marines and Sailors are working with WAR-P as part of their recovery. The mission of WAR-P is to promote the health and rehabilitation of Marines and Sailors recovering from physical and mental health challenges through adaptive sports and reconditioning activities.

If you are interested in participating in adaptive sports, email us at wwsports@usmc.mil or contact our call center at 1–877–487–6299 for more information.
